BEST – Belford Energy Saving Together is a group of local residents who formed a local action group in October 2008 in order to help the village cut our carbon footprint and reduce our energy bills. The group aims to reduce the village’s carbon imitations by 10 % over a one-year period, ending in December 2010. By achieving our goal local people will save money and we will have positively contributed towards avoiding the cataclysmic consequences of global warming. The Energy Saving Trust supports us in this work.

The volunteer group meets approximates 10 times per year, and is made up of business and community leaders and scientists. The group can be contacted

via the Energy Saving Trust and contact details at the foot of this letter.

To achieve our aims we are exploring ways to:

 Generate energy locally,

Insulate our buildings,

Change our behaviour to reduce our energy bills;

 As a first step towards achieving these aims we are asking 70 householders to provide BEST with information from their energy bills, gas, coal, oil, electricity. We need to gather the units of energy householders’ use over 12 months, not the cost of your energy bills. We want to find a current representative sample in the village, so we can measure how effective we have been over the year.

BEST do have some energy monitors to loan out to households free of charge to help you find out how much electricity you are currently using and to help you decide how best to save electricity.. We are also keen to help those householders who do not qualify for free loft insulation to find the cheapest way to insulate their homes.
