Belford's Annual Hidden History Exhibition

By kind permission of Howard and Nick Dawe of Lindisfarne Homes

The theme of this year’s village exhibition in the village is “Belford-the War Years."

The villages’s hugely successful “Hidden History Exhibition” continues this year with the theme of “Belford the War Years”. This will cover both WWI, WWII, the intervening years and, as some of the village lads fought in the Korean War, that engagement as well. We would like to bring to life this aspect of our local history from memories and reminiscences of those that can remember this unique period. Every person was affected in some way or another and we would like to hear their stories. We are also looking for photos, especially of soldiers from WWI, and objects of interest. We scan and copy all the photographs and medals rather than have the originals on display. The exhibtion is open each day from 10-6 until September. If you have anything you wish to contribute please get in touch with Fiona Renner-Thompson on 213377.

Belford’s Hidden History Exhibition, which is now in its third year, has been such a success, that a group of people have banded together in order to take the exhibition forward and ensure it continues.

It has been decided to call the group “Belford Heritage and Conservation Group (BHCG)” which encapsulates the organisation’s aim, which is to “promote the heritage of Belford and District, and its Community; and to promote the conservation of its environment.”

A meeting, which is to be open to the public, is to be held on Tuesday 8th of June in Bellview Resource Centre at 7.30pm, in order that the constitution can be adopted and officials elected. At the meeting it is hoped that a “Friends” of BHCG can be formed and proposals for the future of the exhibition and other projects can be discussed.

Please come along and support this exciting new development, everyone is welcome and support from the village is vital to get this up and running.
